Looking for a Sage Estimating alternative?
Sage Estimating (Timberline) is a mature database-driven estimating tool — strong on assemblies and cost-code libraries. PreconIntel is AI-first and bid-inbox-first, built for the commercial GC workflow rather than the cost-accountant workflow.

When PreconIntel is the better fit
- →You're primarily aggregating and leveling sub bids, not building assembly-based estimates from scratch.
- →You want modern, browser-native UX — not a desktop-era Windows application.
- →You run on Procore, not Sage's accounting stack.
- →You want AI doing the CSI classification rather than estimators picking cost codes by hand.
When Sage Estimating is the better fit
- →Your workflow is heavily assembly-based — the Timberline item database is genuinely the best in the industry for that pattern.
- →You're standardized on Sage 100 / 300 Contractor for accounting and want seamless integration.
- →You need Windows-based workflows and don't want cloud.
We don't think every GC should be a PreconIntel customer. When Sage Estimating is the right fit, we'll say so.
Frequently asked questions
Does PreconIntel replace Sage Estimating?
For commercial GCs doing bid-aggregation estimating, yes — PreconIntel covers parsing, leveling, ITB, benchmarking, and Procore integration. For GCs doing assembly-based estimating off a Timberline database, no — we don't ship an assembly library and don't plan to. Pick based on your estimating workflow.
Can I import my Sage cost code library?
Yes. Export your cost codes from Sage as CSV and our onboarding team maps them to CSI divisions. The mapping persists across projects and improves as you confirm corrections.
What about Sage accounting integration?
Sage 300 / 100 Contractor integration is on our roadmap. Today we integrate deeply with Procore, which many Sage-running GCs also use for PM. If your accounting-side workflow is the deciding factor, stay on Sage Estimating for now.
What do you do that Sage Estimating doesn't?
AI bid parsing from email, AI-generated ITB scope notes, Procore bidirectional sync, permit-driven sub discovery, cost benchmarking that compounds, and a modern browser-native UX. Sage is strongest on assembly-based estimating and accounting integration.
